604 series Duplex question

Hello all,
In many of the Altec cabinet plans for the 604-xx series drivers, an internal support is shown holding up the magnet structure.
The question is, why? The frame and magnet assembly on the 604's seems very sturdy.

Are you sure it isn't bracing used to mechanically couple opposing sides of the cabinet?

it is not the horn...
the WOOD cabinet face will bow in at the top, out at the bottom of the horn's front flange.
wood is not a dimensionally stable material it will warp under pressure

Hi Jim:::

You can do this in your mind. Mount the 604 with the cone facing left and the magnet assembly at the rear.

The downward force where the frame is mounted to the cabinet is supported. However: the force at the end of the magnet assembly is not supported.

Even though the frame is ridged there could some tendency to distort it. So a brace or support that would keep magnet assembly at a 90 degree angle from the mounting board would tend to eliminate any downward sag.

Just a thought.
